| Unit Description |
Valence-bond and molecular orbital theories of bonding and structure in polyatomic molecules of s- and p-block elements; hybridisation, resonance and electronegativity. Simple band theory of metals and semiconductors. The ionic bond - structures of inorganic solids; lattice energy. Transition metal coordination chemistry; introductory ligand field theory; stability constants, mechanisms, and magnetism. CHEM 202A has additional topics in several areas and a higher level and degree of difficulty in assessment tasks. |
