Unit Description

This unit integrates lectures, tutorials, practicals, fieldwork, a taxonomic review and a plant collection to develop basic botanical skills relating to the morphology and taxonomy of flowering plants. The focus is on principles and practices of identification, classification and naming of plants, with an emphasis on characteristically Australian plant families. BOTY 211A and BOTY 411 will cover material in greater depth than BOTY 211, with separate assignments being completed being completed for BOTY 211A and additional assessment tasks requiring a greater level of understanding of the unit material required for BOTY 411.
