Unit Description

Staff from the Australian Museum, Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney and UNE will present this unit. This unit develops knowledge of and skills in systematics through lectures, tutorials and practicals. Topics include: molecular phylogeny, identification, classification, fossils and hybrids, biogeography and co-evolution, conservation and ecology and the 'comparative method'. Practical skills are developed in order to address current issues in systematics. BIOL 302A will cover material in greater depth than BIOL 302, with separate assignments being completed. BIOL 502 is based on BIOL 302, with additional assessment tasks requiring a greater depth of knowledge.
