Why study the Master of Commerce at UNE?

The Master of Commerce (MCom) is a fee-paying, coursework only program, which provides an excellent means of obtaining advanced-level qualifications in business studies. This award is available to students studying off campus or on campus study. The Master of Commerce provides a broadening course for those students wishing to extend their knowledge of business generally, or provides for specific career enhancement for those students seeking a greater concentration in a particular discipline. Students can enrol in areas such as accounting, finance and entrepreneurship, professional accounting and agribusiness.

Full-time candidates will satisfy the requirements of the degree in not more than 18 months. Part-time candidates will complete the requirements in not more than four years.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for admission in the Master of Commerce, a candidate must have completed a three year degree or its equivalent in a relevant discipline.

A candidate who has not met the above criteria, but who has completed the requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting may be accepted for admission for the degree with the Professional Accounting major only.

Applicants considered to be inadequately prepared for candidature may be advised to enrol in the Graduate Diploma or a Masters Qualifying program. Depending on circumstances and performance, such a candidate may be eligible to transfer to the Masters program.

Advanced Standing Advanced standing may be granted for units completed at this University that have not been counted towards another qualification. The maximum advanced standing granted for units that have been successfully completed towards a postgraduate qualification at this or another university or institution is 24 credit points. Each application is decided individually, and applicants must provide documentation to support their application for advanced standing in each unit.

Information for Continuing Master of Commerce Students for 2008

• From 2008, the Graduate School of Business will assume academic and administrative responsibility for the course and have already contacted students about changes for 2008. If you have any queries regarding the course you should contact the Graduate School of Business.

Course Requirements (pre 2008)
Candidates must complete units to the value of 48 cp. The course may include up to 18 cp at 300 level and/or a combination of units at 400 and 500 level.
