Master of Arts
• Minor changes have been made to the MA rules for 2008 following a course review which will apply to new students starting the course in 2008. Continuing students may continue under existing course rules or may apply to change to the new course.
Course Requirements
To qualify for the award of Master of Arts a candidate must pass units worth 48 cp at 400 level. Units should be selected from 400-level units in subjects listed for the degree.
Candidates must include units to the value of at least 24 cp in the same subject.
Not more than 12 cp selected from individual reading unit/dissertation units may be included in the program. Candidates may not include units in more than three subjects.

2. Units defined as Criminology and Social Justice include: APPS 495, 496; CRIM 464 (previously SOCY 464); PAIS 411; SOCY 410, 431 (no longer offered), 441, 444, 454, 472 (no longer offered), 482, 490. All units listed have a credit point value of six except SOCY 410, with a credit point value of 12.
3. Units defined as Women’s and Gender Studies include: ENGL 475, HIST 485, PAIS 463 (previously SOCY 461); PDPS 429.
4. Units defined as Ancient History include: HIST 495 and, subject to relevant research topics as approved by the Head of the School of Humanities, HIST 497 and 498.

Award of the Degree
Graduating students in the Master of Arts who have successfully completed at least 36 cp in one of the above subjects and areas of study may request that it appear on their testamur at graduation.
