Bachelor of Arts with Honours

Why study the Bachelor of Arts with Honours at UNE?

This course is designed to allow well-qualified graduates to extend their studies in areas offered by the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, either to improve their career prospects or to proceed to higher degree studies. Completion of the degree to the standard of Honours Class II Division 2 or better is the normal mode of entry to the research degree of Master of Arts with Honours. Completion to the standard of Honours Class II Division 1 or better is the normal mode of entry to candidature for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.

Graduates of honours in psychology are eligible to apply for Associate Membership of the Australian Psychological Society and provisional registration to practise as a psychologist, and for admission to the professional Master of Psychology (Clinical) degree.

Entry Requirements

The normal admission requirement for admission is a Bachelor of Arts degree from a recognised university or tertiary institution with at least 60 cp (or equivalent) in the subject of the chosen field of study with grades of Distinction or better in units to the value of at least 18 cp at 300 level. Candidates will also need to fulfil any additional requirements prescribed by the school or discipline and approved by the faculty.

Information for Continuing Bachelor of Arts with Honours Students for 2008

• This document provides information on course requirements to assist you in completing your 2008 re-enrolment.
• Note that continuing Bachelor of Arts with Honours students who will not complete requirements for the course with study in 2007 must re-enrol for 2008.
• Please take a moment to look at requirements as this information will help you select units and enrol for 2008.

Course Requirements
The program includes a dissertation and advanced level course work which are coded with the relevant subject codes: 401H and 402H (for example a student undertaking the Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Psychology will enrol in and complete the units PSYC 401H and PSYC 402H). If studying part-time 401H will be completed before enrolment in 402H. If studying full-time, students enrol in 401H and 402H concurrently.

The majority of continuing students will be enrolled in 401H in 2007 if part-time and 401H and 402H if full-time. Most continuing students began study in February 2007and will be enrolled in their units on a year-long basis. Those students who commenced study in semester two should enrol in their semester 2 2007 unit(s) again for semester one 2008 and select the appropriate unit for semester two 2008 as required to complete the course.

Please note that if you will not complete your units for the Bachelor of Arts with Honours in 2007 you must re-enrol for 2008.
Each candidate is required to spend periods in ‘face-to-face’ consultation with his or her Supervisor(s). The nature and extent of such consultation is determined by the Supervisors and Head of School after consultation with the candidate before each year of candidature.
