Graduate Diploma in Rural Science

Why study the Graduate Diploma in Rural Science at UNE?

The Graduate Diploma is Rural Science is designed to give graduates an opportunity to undertake specialised study in an area of agriculture.

Pathway: Concurrent Enrolment with the Bachelor of Science:

After completion of two years of study (96 credit points) towards the degree of Bachelor of Science, students may enrol concurrently for the Graduate Diploma in Rural Science. The Graduate Diploma will not be awarded until the Bachelor degree has been completed.

Articulation Opportunities

The Graduate Diploma in Rural Science can be used as an entry qualification for enrolment for the Master of Agriculture, the Master of Science in Agriculture or the Master of Rural Science.

On completion of two units towards the Graduate Diploma, students can transfer to the Master of Agriculture. The two units competed will count towards the Master program.

On completion of four units towards the Graduate Diploma, students can transfer to the Master of Science in Agriculture. The four units completed will count towards the Master program.

On completion of the Graduation Diploma at the level of at least Pass with Distinction, students are able to apply for admission to candidature for the degree of Master of Rural Science.

Information for Continuing Graduate Diploma in Rural Science Students for 2008

• Continuing students have had their proposed program of study approved in advance by the course coordinator. Please refer to documentation you have received regarding your program of study.

Course Requirements (pre 2008)
A candidate must complete a study program comprising units to the value of 48cp at 200 level or above including not more than 18cp at 200 level. Units for the course should be selected from those offered by the School of Environmental and Rural Science and the School of Science and Technology. These include units with a prefix of AGRO, ANPR, SOIL, COTT, etc

With the approval of the Course Coordinator, the prescribed course of study may include the unit RUSC 595 or HORT 595 (Project Report units). The project topic must be approved in advance by the Course Coordinator. The project may take the form of a design, management plan, literature review, or a field or laboratory investigation.

Award of the Graduate Diploma
A candidate who has successfully completed the unit RUSC 595 or HORT 595 within his/her study program will be awarded the Graduate Diploma at the level of Pass, Credit, Distinction or High Distinction. A candidate who does not complete RUSC 595 or HORT 595 within the study program will be awarded the Graduate Diploma at the level of Pass.
