Graduate Diploma in Health Science

Why study the Graduate Diploma in Health Science at UNE?

This course aims to provide graduate health practitioners with a knowledge of the properties, desired effects and safety issues of western herbal medicines that are commonly prescribed and dispensed by health care professionals.

The variety of, and options for, treatment relevant to a wide range of common conditions encountered by health care professionals and the selection of appropriate and individual treatments, including recommendations on dosage, are examined.

Completion of the award should enable the student to: Critically analyse the current and potential role of herbal medicine in health care

Identify the therapeutic properties of major medicinal herbs, and assess, advise and prescribe appropriate herbal treatment for a range of disorders

Identify and apply the principles of safe manufacture and usage of herbal medicines

Apply advanced concepts of herbal pharmacology

Identify and analyse current issues and challenges applicable to herbal medicine research and practice

Manage a herbal medicine practice including formulating a business plan, marketing, case taking, treatment formulation, dispensing and complying with relevant ethical and legal requirements.

A candidate shall hold a professionally recognised health qualification and full practitioner membership of an appropriate professional association approved by the Faculty and either;

A degree of a university relevant to the award.

OR

Satisfy the Faculty by means of other qualifications and relevant experience of adequate preparation for candidature. Other qualification/s and relevant experience deemed appropriate by the Faculty to provide adequate preparation for candidature
