Overview

The Graduate Diploma in Agricultural Economics is designed to give graduates specialised training in agricultural economics. It is particularly useful for commerce, agriculture or economics graduates who wish to enhance their skills and employment prospects in the area of agricultural economics. The diploma can also be used as a bridge between undergraduate degrees and the Master of Economics degree. Students can major in such areas as rural policy, resource economics, agribusiness management, farm management, rural development policy, and macroeconomics and trade.

Entry Requirements

Students wanting to study the Graduate Diploma in Agricultural Economics should be graduates of a recognised university or other institution as approved by the Faculty; or hold an equivalent qualification; or provide other evidence of adequate preparation for candidature. The previous degree need not include a major in Agricultural Economics

Information for Continuing Graduate Diploma in Agricultural Economics Students for 2008

Course Requirements
Candidates must complete units to the value of 48 cp comprising:
(a) at least 36 cp from ECON units with a second digit 2 or 3 and ECON 497;
(b) elective units to the value of 12 cp chosen from the units of the School of Business, Economics and Public Policy
Not more than 24 cp can be completed at 100 level and at least 12 cp must be completed at 300 level or any combination of units at 300 and 400 level.

Summer Schools provide an opportunity for students to fast-track their academic progression or to catch up on units required to complete the degree. A selection of units is offered off-campus during the normal semester break from November to February, enabling students to study from home and to accelerate their progress towards graduation.
