The Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting represents Stage 1 of the professional educational requirements leading to professional membership of the National Institute of Accountants (NIA) and is of TAFE qualified members of the NIA who wish to move from Associate (ANIA) status to Member (MNIA) status of the NIA.

Entry Requirements

A candidate for the Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting shall be a member or an associate member of the National Institute of Accountants, shall have completed Year 12* with an Advanced Diploma (or equivalent) relevant to the award, and shall have had at least one year (full-time equivalent) of relevant work experience in accountancy or a related field. * A candidate who otherwise satisfies the above, may substitute for the completion of year 12 with an acceptable combination of other study and additional relevant work experience in accountancy or a related field.

Advanced Standing Students who have partially completed the Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting at UNE or another University can receive credit for up to three units (18 credit points).
Fast Track Summer Schools provide an opportunity for students to fast-track their academic progression or to catch up on units required to complete the degree. A selection of units is offered off-campus during the normal semester break from November to February, enabling students to study from home and to accelerate their porgress towards graduation. Summer Schools are offered on a fee-paying basis only.

Information for Continuing Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting Students for 2008

• The Graduate School in Business course will be responsible for the course from 2008 and has contacted students continuing in their studies in the course from 2007 to 2008 about these changes. Students with queries regarding the course should contact the Graduate School of Business.

Course Requirements (pre 2008)
Candidates must complete units to the value of 24 cp comprising:

MM 300 Strategic Planning and Management
MM 422 Managing Ethics in Organisations (no longer offered replaced by GSB751)
Plus two units from
AFM 311 Advanced Financial Accounting
AFM 432 Security Analysis and Portfolio Management
GSB 603 International Accounting# (previously AFM 514)
GSB 604 Issues in Auditing and Professional Practice# (previously AFM 512)
LS 391 Principles of Corporation Law
LS 392 Principles of Taxation Law
# A candidate who has been admitted to the course on the basis of a completed Bachelor’s degree may include the elective units GSB 603 (previously AFM 514) and GSB 604 (previously AFM 512) in his/her program of study.
