Information for Continuing Bachelor of Social Science Students for 2008

• Note changes have been made to the Bachelor of Social Science rules for 2008. New students beginning studies in 2008 will be governed by 2008 course rules. Current students who are continuing in their course in 2008 may continue under existing rules or may apply to change to the 2008 rules of their course if they wish. As the majority of current students in the course are proceeding under rules which applied before 2007 information on pre 2007 rules as well as 2007 rules has been included.

Course Requirements (Pre 2007)
To qualify for the degree candidates must successfully complete 144 cp including:
(a) both units in Group I - PSYC 202 (previously PESS 202) and PHIL 323 (previously PHSS 323);
(b) in any one subject in Group IIA - Sociology or Psychology;
• 48 cp including at least 12 cp at 300 level
• not more than 18 cp at 100 level
• not more than 84 cp;
(c) at least 12 cp in each of Psychology and Sociology;
(d) in any one subject in Group IIB:
• not more than 18 cp at 100 level
• not more than 48 cp;
(e) not more than 60 cp at 100 level;
(f) not more than 30 cp from Group III, including not more than 12 cp at 100 level, except that candidates who already hold a degree may be permitted to include 48 cp.

Group IIA
Psychology; Sociology
Group IIB
Aboriginal Studies; Ancient History; Archaeology and Palaeoanthropology; Asian Societies; CLST 320; Communication Studies; Econometrics (specified units); Economics; Education (specified units); Geography and Planning (specified units); History; Human Bioscience; HUMN 240; Legal Studies; Linguistics; Marketing and Management; Music (specified units) (revised for 2008 for details see 2008 course and unit information); Peace Studies; Philosophy; Political and International Studies; Studies in Religion; Women’s and Gender Studies.
Group III
Any other unit approved by the Course Coordinator.

Course Requirements (2007)
To qualify for the degree candidates must successfully complete 144 cp including:
• not more than 60 cp at 100 level;
• units to the value of 36 cp from Group I;
• at least 12 cp in each of the subjects listed in Group IIA;
• at least 42 cp in a single subject from Group IIA including:
- at least 12 cp at 300 level; and
- not more than 18 cp at 100 level; and
- not more than 84 cp;
• in any one subject from Group IIB:
- not more than 18 cp at 100 level; and
- not more than 48 cp;
• not more than 30 cp from Group III of which not more than 12 cp shall be at 100 level, except candidates who hold a degree of this university or a qualification of equivalent standing from another institution may be permitted to include 48 cp from this group.

PSYC 202 (previously PESS 202); PHIL 323; SOCY 333; PSYC 302 or SOCY 341; ENCO 306 or ECT 303; PAIS 370 or SOCY 311 (previously PAIS 311).
Group IIA
Psychology, Sociology.
Group IIB
Aboriginal Studies; Ancient History; Archaeology and Palaeoanthropology; CLST 320; Communication Studies including ENCO 100; EDAE 310; EDUC 396, 397, 496, 497; Economics; Education—EDCX 230, 235, 305, 309, 315, 330, 335, 346, 446; GEPL 111, 112, 121, 122, 311, 314, 316, 322, 324, 359, 361, 301/401, 320/420, 345/445, 350/450, 352, 370/470; History; Human Bioscience; HUMN 240; Legal Studies; Linguistics; Marketing and Management; Music units (revised for 2008 for details see 2008 course and unit information); Peace Studies; Philosophy; Political and International Studies; Studies in Religion; Women’s and Gender Studies; WORK 300.
Group III
Any other units taught within the university and approved by the course coordinator. These units may include not more than 12 cp in Curriculum Studies, excluding 900 level Curriculum Studies units.
