Bachelor of Nursing Studies

Why study the Bachelor of Nursing Studies at UNE?

The nursing profession has a key role to play in the health of all Australians. Nurses are employed in a wide variety of health-related situations including occupational health and safety, community nursing, mental health, general medical and surgical nursing and a large number of speciality settings.

The aim is to prepare Enrolled Nurses as beginning competent nursing clinicians who will be eligible for registration with the NSW Nurses' Registration Board. Graduates will have experienced a tertiary education preparing them for lifelong education and providing a sound foundation for postgraduate work in the discipline of nursing.

The four-year external program of study is supplemented with on-campus residential schools and on-site clinical experience provided by the School of Health Clinical Schools and their associated Health Services partners.

Clinical Placement: The Bachelor of Nursing Studies has a large component of clinical praxis (clinical practice related to theory). 20 weeks of clinical practice is undertaken in the course, this is designed for students to integrate their knowledge and experience and to develop the level of skills required of a registered nurse. Praxis must be undertaken in NSW and outside candidates' place of employment.
