The Joint Medical Program (JMP) commenced at the University of New England in 2008 in partnership with the University of Newcastle, Hunter New England and Central Coast Local Health Districts. The 31 March 2017 graduation ceremony signifies the fifth team of qualified doctors to emerge from this unique rural training setting and we are extremely proud of them.
This innovative partnership endeavours to combine academic rigour with the skills, expertise and projected needs of service providers across the continuum of metropolitan, rural, regional and remote health care delivery. The JMP partners share a common belief that medical students who undertake some of their training in rural communities are more likely to practise in those areas on completion of their degree. Placement experiences, particularly those in community settings, have given our students the expertise they need to practise throughout Australia. This training also helps students to see the patient as a whole person and in a manner consistent with his/her social and physical environment.
The achievement of the Bachelor of Medicine represents an outstanding dedication to academic study and clinical experience.
To celebrate The School of Rural Medicine, University of New England, is hosting a Graduation Dinner for our students and their families from 6pm on Friday, 31 March at the Armidale City Bowling Club.
