Professional DevelopmentThe Centre for Local Government has a solid history of delivery of training programs to the local government sector. Programs are developed and delivered by trainers associated with the Centre. The Centre maintains responsibility for academic oversight of these programs, which are predominantly delivered by UNE Partnerships, the professional education and training company owned by the University. The Centre also delivers specialist short courses in conjunction with various academic units of the University. In addition to formal professional development programs and short courses, the Centre runs an occasional series of seminars on topical local government issues. These have included seminars on amalgamation and also on major changes to the planning system. The Centre works in conjunction with a host Council in the delivery of these seminars. The Centre also hosted the major conference “The Cutting Edge of Change – Local Government in the 21st Century” in early 2002. |
