Visiting Professorship Position
Between November 2011 and February 2012, Brian Dollery was Visiting Professor at the School of Science and Technology, University Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Kota Kinabalu, where he delivered a paper entitled ‘The Case for an Australian National Finance Authority’ to Postgraduate Economics Conference, Faculty of Economics, University of Malaysia, Kota Kinabalu, on 23 November 2012.
In December 2011 and January 2012, Brian was Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Economics, Yokohama National University (YNU). During the period in Japan, Brian visited Centre for Local Government member Professor Yukio Kinoshita at Iwate University in Morioka City in the Tohoku region of north Honshu, where he addressed a conference held in Oshu City. His address was entitled ‘Rationalizing Local Government Structure through Shared Services’. Yukio has been a member of the UNE Centre for Local Government since 2006. The Tohoku region was badly affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 2011. At YNU Brian worked with Professor Yamazaki on a comparative study of local government amalgamation in Australia and Japan.
In July, 2012, Brian delivered a keynote address entitled ‘Is Amalgamation a Silver Bullet’ to the 100th Annual Conference of the Tasmanian Local Government Association in Hobart.
On 5 October 2012, Brian presented ‘Financing the Future: The Case for a National Finance Authority’ to the Annual Conference of Local Government Managers Australia of the Tasmania Branch at Barndougle Golf Resort, Bridport.
In late November 2011, Brian Dollery was again Visiting Professor at the School of Science and Technology, University Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Kota Kinabalu.
