The 2008 working year at CLG contained a number of highlights, particularly in the second half of the year.

In September, Director Brian Dollery visited the Commonwealth Local Government Focus Group in London and the Institute of Local Government Studies at the University of Birmingham.

Also in September, the book Local Government Reform. A Comparative Analysis of Advanced Anglo-American Countries edited by Brian Dollery, Joseph Garcea and Edward LeSage Jr. was released by Edward Elgar.

In October, the Centre hosted a visit by Mike Reid of Local Government New Zealand (pictured below, centre, with Brian Dollery and Bligh Grant).

 In November, Professor Fabio Fiorillo, Professor of Public Economics at Università Politecnica delle Marche in Ancona, Italy visited the CLG (pictured below, centre, with Brian Dollery and Bligh Grant).

In December, the book The Theory and Practice of Local Government Reform, edited by Brian Dollery and Lorenzo Robotti, was released;

 In December, the Deputy Director of CLG, Bligh Grant, presented the paper ‘Leadership in contemporary local government reform: The Lyons Report in England and its implications for Australasian Local Government’ at the Australian New Zealand Management Association (ANZAM) Annual Conference in Auckland, New Zealand.
