DEFS 400:
Individual Research Project
This unit is designed to allow candidates to pursue in more depth
defence studies research which arises from their work in a unit of
the degree. Candidates must have gained at least a Credit in the
relevant earlier unit. The proposal must be approved by the
lecturer in charge of Defence Studies. Assessment is by a
12 000-word project and a preliminary literature survey. Students
enrolled in this unit must have at least four days' face-to-face
consultation with their supervisor.
DEFS 401:
Special Option in Defense Studies
This unit is designed to allow candidates to undertake a program
of reading or pursue an individual research topic to meet special
interests in the field of defence studies. Enrolment is by
arrangement with an appropriate staff member and must be
approved by the lecturer in charge of Defence Studies.
Assessment and assignment requirements will be as negotiated
between students and the staff member coordinating the program
or project.
DEFS 403:
Leadership
An holistic approach to understanding the nature of leadership,
particularly in the military. The unit covers the nature of leadership,
leadership concepts, theories, and styles, strategic leadership, and
the different requirements for leadership in military and
commercial environments. It has two 1750-2250 word essays
and a take-home examination.
