Studies in Religion
Studies in Religion looks at how religions begin and develop important aspects of religions (founder or founding group, sacred writings and stories, structures of believing communities, etc.) and analyses what part religions play within social and political life. The program at UNE is comparative - we study and compare various features especially of the five great world religions: Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam.
There is no need to be religious yourself to be able to study in our program. If you just have an interest in religions as key players in human history, or if you're looking for a career in any area that demands you have a certain degree of cross-cultural understanding (e.g. journalism, counselling, social services, health services, community work, church/religious pastoral work or administration, law, government, personnel management, public service, teaching, tourism, marketing/overseas trade, etc), then this is the subject for you!
