Residentials

UNE has a long tradition of offering external students the opportunity to spend concentrated periods of time on campus at residential schools.

For Local, Family and Applied History students (from all your awards) there is an OPTIONAL four day residential school offered annually during the university break in April. The school is more like a four day workshop or series of seminars. There are sessions on different aspects of local, family and applied history relating to specific units offered at UNE; excursions to historic sites and collections; and sessions on researching and presenting history.

Sample comments from students who have attended these schools include:

A worthwhile introduction. The practical demonstrations were excellent – eg. Museum, Saumarez.

Meeting other students at the same stage of concern in approaching a university course …

The ability of the lecturers to overcome the concerns and to provide such enthusiasm for their subjects. Also, providing different settings for lectures.

Meeting staff, Meeting students. Seeing resources eg. library, cemetery. Overview of courses/units.

Face-to-face contact with teachers is very important and reassuring. Learning about expectations by teachers for assignments. Interaction with fellow students. Most of all – MOTIVATION!

If you are enrolled in one of our awards or some of our units and would like to attend the residential school, please contact the Local, Family and Applied History Academic Coordinator.

NOTE: Some units have optional residential schools and you are encouraged to attend these.
