Postgraduate Study in LFAH

The postgraduate award which offers specialisation in local, family and applied history is the Graduate Diploma (GradDipLoc&AppHist). Other postgraduate awards provide opportunities to further specialise in progressively deeper levels of research. Details of these are listed below:

Graduate Diploma in Local, Family and Applied History

The Graduate Diploma is particularly suited to those who already have an undergraduate degree (it can be an arts, science, commerce, engineering or another degree) and an interest in local, family and applied history.

On completing your Graduate Diploma, you may wish to consider further postgraduate study.

Master of Arts (MA)

Graduate students can also elect to do a Masters by course work in which some of the units fall within the local, family and applied history area. You can elect to do a major in History or in Heritage Studies. The MA by coursework also provides an opportunity to do some original research.

MA(Honours) and PhD

MA(Honours) and PhD are postgraduate research degrees for which you are required to initiate, carry out and present original historical research under the supervision of an academic supervisor. If you are eligible, these degrees provide you with the opportunity to pursue sustained original research, thinking and writing in a local, family or applied history area of your choice.
