The Centre for Bioactive Discovery in Health and Ageing (CBDHA) is a multi-disciplinary research group conducting cutting-edge biomedical research. CBDHA is located within the School of Science and Technology at the University of New England. UNE has designated CBDHA a Centre of Research Excellence within the university’s targeted strategic research priority of Rural Health.
CBDHA is currently staffed by 9 scientists plus technical and general support staff. Researchers within the Centre represent a range of disciplines within the biomedical sciences such as immunology, endocrinology, protein biochemistry, chemistry, physiology, microbiology and molecular and cellular biology. Research is conducted on a range of projects including breast cancer, diabetes, hormonal regulation of ovulation, pregnancy and pre-term labour, neurophysiological and immune system interactions, respiratory medicine, productive ageing, antioxidants and oxidative stress, mechanisms of chemical mutagenesis and design of drugs with potential for anticancer activity, bioactivities of native Australian plants and functional food technology.
