çeviri için tıklayın ...The Church of Constantine and Helena at Aktaş, 8-10 kilometres northeast of Niğde, dates from the 5th-6th century and was used into the 20th century. An attempt was made to dynamite the church in 1977, and excavation and restoration of the building has been undertaken since 1996, under the direction of Sacit Pekak. Restoration work and conservation of the wall paintings continues.
Burials at the site date from the 5th-6th century AD to the modern period. The building has many phases. Having begun as a Hellenistic-style basilica with three aisles, it was rebuilt as a vaulted basilica in the Middle Byzantine period. In 2007 work was undertaken cleaning the wall paintings in the arches of the interior and a better protective roof was constructed. The arches added to the colonnade in the Middle Byzantine phase were painted with figures of saints.Niğde’nin 8-10 km kuzeydoğusundaki Aktaş’ta yer alan ve 5.-6. yüzyıllara tarihlenen Constantine ve Helena Kilisesi, 20. yüzyıla dek kullanılmıştır. 1977’de dinamitle havaya uçurulmak istenen kilisede kazı ve restorasyon çalışmalarına 1996 yılında Sacit Pekak yönetiminde başlanmıştır. Restorasyon ve duvar resimlerinin konservasyonu çalışmalarına devam edilmektedir.
Sitte yer alan mezarlar M.S. 5.-6. yüzyıllar ile günümüz arasına tarihlenmektedir. Yapı çok evrelidir. İlk olarak Helenistik üslupta üç nefli bir bazilika olarak inşa edilen yapı, Orta Bizans Döneminde tonoz üstörtülü olarak yeniden yapılmıştır. 2007’de iç mekân kemerlerindeki duvar resimleri temizlenmiş ve daha sağlıklı bir koruyucu üstörtü inşa edilmiştir. Orta Bizans evresinde revaklara eklenen kemerlerde azizleri betimleyen resimler yer almaktadır.Last updated: 18 May 2009
