Albies provides an extensive pastoral, social and
academic support network for all its residents

Like all good families, we’re there to assist you when life becomes a little challenging.  Staff and student leaders are always on hand to help with your problems or just offer some friendly advice.

Academic Advisors provide academic assistance across all disciplines. They conduct regular tutorials , run group study nights and are also available for individual consultation.

Our strong association with community members means we are also able to offer additional specialist academic assistance in areas of medicine, law, accounting, business, agriculture, education and the health professions.

In Semester 1 2011 59% of all of the grades achieved by our students were either High Distinction, Distinction or Credit.

Resident Support Team (RST)

RAs—Resident Advisors

Located on every floor, these are a group of very competent people who are ready to help you or direct you to where you can get help.

Your RA takes a personal interest in you by following your progress as you adjust to University and College life and giving encouragement. They have a disciplinary authority delegated by the Master. The RA also develops a community spirit among the members of their floor.

AAs—Academic Advisors

Academic Advisors are appointed by the College to offer academic assistance in their chosen fields. They conduct the Academic Support Program and will also be available for consultation in their rooms.

PAs—Pastoral Assistants

The role of the Pastoral Assistant is considered a stepping stone to becoming a Floor Residential Advisor. They assist the RA in ensuring floor welfare and harmony.

JCR

Every resident of St Albert's College (excluding the RST) is a member of the Junior Common Room (JCR). The JCR is responsible for the organisation of all social events at college, such as dances and theme nights, as well as providing extra facilities to residents.

Sporting Clubs

Albies has a long and strong tradition in sporting pursuits. It’s worth your while to have a chat to the respective Club Presidents to see how you can be a part of our history.

SCR

The Senior Common Room is comprised of academics and business people from our local community who sponsor our undergraduates in their life at College. They are a great bunch of people and our students respect them deeply. The Senior Common Room also extends membership to the Master, the Dean of Students and the RST.

Albies Community

What’s the deal?

Albies community is unique - we actively encourage a family orientated atmosphere. If you want a "home away from home" that is supportive, where you all have fun together, where people are there for you when you need it most, well… that’s what Albies is all about.

How do I fit in?

  • Have fun—it’s a state of mind.
  • Don’t be afraid to say hello and introduce yourself—to anybody.
  • Be genuinely interested in what other people have to say.
  • Remember names—start with your floor first then work outwards.
  • Lend a hand—if you see someone who might need assistance i.e. heavy load, walking up top, looking a bit stressed—help them out.
  • Join In—social, sport, culture—the more the merrier.
  • Be honest—in your conversations with others and with yourself.
  • Have Respect—for yourself and others, keep noise down, treat others kindly and with consideration.
  • Include others—if you are going somewhere or just sitting with some friends and someone walks by ask if they would like to join you and then ensure  they are included.
  • Language—use language that welcomes discussion and opinions from others.
  • Listen—take the time to listen to others, you might be surprised what you learn.
  • Individuality—it’s OK not to be the same as other students, so long as you don’t exclude yourself—more respect is given to someone who is willing to participate and get involved without compromising their values.
  • Get Real—don’t give in to peer pressure.
