Farewell our Foreign Friends

The Tigers are now without their prized imports of Dan (Piggsy) Boorman and Andy (Bros) Bown for the rest of season 2001 due to the end of their time in Australia. Also missing will be the voice of Mark (S-Club) Dunn on the sideline, which was one of the highlights of the pre season.

The Tigers farewelled their English team mates in great style on the pitch with a resounding 5-0 thrashing of the Kootingal Kougars. Of less style was the off field farewell, which although immense fun and a good chance for some nostalgia and reminiscing was not the classy affair that the Kootingal match was. The off field affair was a great chance for the Tigers to show the boys how high a regard they were held in with almost the whole team making an effort to get to this event, even though it was in the middle of the exam period for the UNE boys, and after a social for the TAS lads.

Debate will be raging for months within the Tigers camp however as to whether or not the boys made a bigger impact with their on or off field contributions to UNE/TAS Soccer. The boys contributed invaluably to the teams song list as well as to the singing of these songs. Also memorable off the field were the performances of the boys with all of them breaking numerous hearts during their time in Australia as well as drinking immeasurable amounts of beer and goon. The most memorable on field contributions were the call of "come home", the contributions to the victory in the UNE Twilight competition, and the solid NISL games both players put in.

You lads were great for the Tigers club and we loved having you here and will remember fondly the "Beer, fanny and football" (Boorman, D. 2001) that marked your time as Tigers. However it is greatly disturbing to hear rumours of you bad mouthing certain (no. 10 wearing) teammates to the women that you have left behind.

Simon Hunter (on behalf of the rest of the Tigers).
