2008 will implement a Flexi Choice arrangement within Drummond & Smith and Duval Colleges.
‘Flexi Choice’ will mean the following changes:
- The traditional 21 meals per week previously included in each student’s fee will be ‘unbundled’ to empower the student to make a choice
- the time they elect to take their meals throughout the day
- a much wider range of food choice being offered
- a ‘retail outlet’ also on site allowing for a ‘café’ style offering
- students will only pay for the meals they take releasing them from the current system for which they pay for meals whether they take them or not
- each resident can elect to take meals in either of the College Dining Halls or precincts or within the academic area of the University by presenting their ‘smart card’ at the Deli Marche also run by Scolarest (a part of the world wide Compass Group)
- similar ‘at cost’ prices will be available only to the students of DD & S Colleges
To enable this to happen the Colleges will:
- ask each resident to provide a credit advance to ‘front load’ a ‘smart card’ which will then be used to deduct the meals or purchases they make at the time they elect to use the dining facilities
- have the Café open from 7 am to 9 pm each day
- have ‘Food Court’ options will be provided at designated times of the day
- enable the Sunday brunch – ‘cook your own’ to continue
To retain the ‘Collegiate’ nature of the two Colleges the traditional style ‘celebratory’ dinners will be included within each resident’s fee. As an example:
- Commencement Dinners
- Guest Speaker Dinners
- Christmas in July
- Awards Dinners
- Valedictory Dinners
Additional benefits:
- Each resident will be able to track their own ‘usage’ by logging onto a computer which will register their itemized debits item by item
- Top quality coffee and snacks will be available
- Ease of inviting guests to dine with you
- Cash purchases will be possible
- All facilities are retained and enhanced still within a ‘Collegiate’ environment where pastoral care and academic assistance remains paramount
