FINANCES AND SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

New UNE Exchange Scholarships created by the Vice-Chancellor are now available to assist UNE students with costs of participating in overseas exchange programs. The scholarships are worth $1000 each and will be awarded primarily upon academic merit. Details, as well as application forms, can be accessed through http://www.une.edu.au/ipo/exchange_4.htm

There are no tuition fees to be paid at the partner institutions overseas. However, normal HECS or other tuition and service fees at UNE still apply. Of course, the required textbooks would also have to be purchased the same as if you were studying at UNE.

Apart from the obvious travel costs to fly to the destination country, additional expenses for accommodation and food will be incurred, of course. Depending on the exchange destination these might be higher than the college fees here in Armidale. (Approximate cost figures – as far as known – are listed on the appropriate pages about the various partner universities.) Also, you would need to pay for international medical insurance, as well as fees for travel documents (passport, visa).

While the unique experience of an international exchange certainly is worth such an investment in general, there are various scholarships on offer to help any qualified students, who need financial assistance.

For exchange destinations in Germany, it’s well worth checking out the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and CDG (Carl Duisberg Society) Web sites. These organisations do not only offer scholarships for German students studying abroad, but also for foreigners who wish to study in Germany.

The UNE International Office can provide further information on available scholarships. With time, we will also include detailed scholarship information for EBL students on these pages
