Our location in Armidale, NSW, provides an excellent base for study, with easy access to a variety of landscapes and industries located in, national parks, rangelands, rainforests, wetlands, and coastal catchments and marine areas. Fieldwork opportunities are an important aspect of your study at UNE. We have an established teaching and research facility located on a working grazing property close to the University. We also work closely with the National Marine Science Centre at Coffs Harbour, NSW. Access to a range of pastoral and agricultural systems is also available via the University rural properties and in conjunction with many cooperating private landowners.
In addition to excellent study facilities, UNE provides a relaxed and friendly environment where you will make many friends. This is particularly true if you stay on campus in one the University Colleges, which provide a supportive environment in which to study and meet students from a variety of backgrounds.
The Bachelor of Natural Resources...the application of scientific principles to the management of the natural environment
As a graduate of this degree you will have:
- acquired a strong scientific understanding of global environmental issues and natural resources management
- well-developed technical competencies in the field, laboratory and professional workplace related to environmental science and natural resources management
- extensive experience in fieldwork and application of knowledge and skills in diverse and changing environments
- developed skills in: written scientific communication, oral scientific communication, cooperative teamwork and problem solving
- acquired skills to locate and critically evaluate scientific information
- essential professional skills: the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, critically evaluate and solve problems, negotiate and communicate effectively with varied audiences
- work-place experience in natural resource management (government or industry)
- completed an independent research project in natural resources management
- an understanding of, and the capacity to influence dynamic relationships between science, policy and socio-economic values for the better
- the ability to design and manage environmental solutions with consideration of policy, economic, technical, and social frameworks
- acquired a strong knowledge of management by the fourth year, in: project management, natural resources policy, land, water and catchment management, environmental economics, hydrology and engineering
- the opportunity to proceed to higher degree research
- a distinct career advantage with increased opportunities for career progression

Normal admission requirements apply, Assumed knowledge is Mathematics and recommended study is Biology and/or Chemistry and/or Physics. The Faculty offers Foundation Studies in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics for students who do not have the recommended background knowledge. |
