Psychology Clinic

The UNE Psychology Clinic provides assessment and therapeutic services for the New England community. It is also a training and research facility for the Clinical Psychology Programs. The clinic trains postgraduate clinical psychology students, all of whom have provisional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. All provisional psychologists in the clinic are supervised by registered and experienced clinical psychologists including Dr Tanya Hanstock, Dr Lisa Patterson-Kane, Dr Debra Dunstan and Dr Amy Lykins.

Services Offered

The clinic is open year-round Monday-Friday 9am-5pm except for Public Holidays and approximately 3 weeks over the Christmas period. The clinic provides assessment and treatment for a range of psychological problems for adults and children including:

  • Anxiety and phobias
  • Depression
  • Eating disorders
  • Trauma/stress
  • Marital/sexual difficulties
  • Extreme shyness
  • Complicated grief
  • Headache/pain
  • Cognitive, intellectual, memory assessments
  • Learning, behavioural and emotional problems in children and adolescents.
  • Personality Assessments
  • Assessment of Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Bipolar Disorder

NOTE: Persons suffering from acute episodes of depression/suicidality, drug dependence, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or dementia are better referred to other services. The clinic does not provide a crisis management service. The Psychology Clinic accepts referrals from medical practitioners, paediatricians, psychiatrists, neurologists, speech pathologists, occupational thearapists, dietitians, school counsellors and community services, as well as self-referrals. Referrals can also be made by your GP through the Better Outcomes in Mental Health Care Progam.
All consultations are made by appointment only.

Location

The clinic is located at the end of Library Road on the right, in an attractive historic building beside the main psychology building. Parking is available near by. There is a regular bus service from the Armidale city centre to the University.
