Postgraduate Studies in Linguistics

There is a range of postgraduate study options in Linguistics.  Brief information is provided on these below. All of them are available in the external mode as well as on campus. Please follow the links for further information.

POSTGRADUATE COURSEWORK AWARDS

The MAAL and MAAL (Hons)

The Master of Applied Linguistics (MAAL) is offered off-campus. It is an on-line coursework degree designed for language educators and others with a professional interest in language. For students who wish to gain professional preparation in TESOL we offer a major within the MAAL. Students taking this route graduate with a Master of Applied Linguistics (TESOL).

The Master of Applied Linguistics (Hons) consists of the coursework MAAL plus a 24 credit point research dissertation. It can be completed in one and a half years of full-time study or up to five years of part-time study. This degree provides students with research training sufficient to apply for admission to a PhD program at UNE or elsewhere.

For further information about the MAAL or the MAAL (Hons) please follow the links to our webpages which offer Frequently Asked Questions. If you have queries, which are not answered by the information on these pages, please contact the MAAL Degree Co-ordinator Dr Elizabeth Ellis: Liz.Ellis@une.edu.au.
