Bachelor of Agriculture
The Bachelor of Agriculture is a three year degree with a focus on the training of managers using technology in agriculture. The degree structure provides considerable flexibility for students wanting to specialise in particular aspects of agriculture including: animal breeding, crop and pasture science, soil science, agricultural extension, meat and wool science, cotton production and many others. This degree is also part of the combined and double degree programs: Bachelor of Agriculture/Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Agriculture/Bachelor of Laws which provide agricultural science background knowledge with specialist training in law or business.

UNE has a long-standing reputation for excellence in agricultural research and teaching. We have a concentration of Co-operative Research Centres for many agricultural industries based at Armidale. Many of the staff in these centres are experts in their fields and are involved with teaching in the agricultural degrees.
At UNE, we boast world-class excellence in research; both in individual and group research; disciplinary and inter-disciplinary research and research supervision and training which is transmitted directly to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Academic staff who teach in the Rural Science and Agriculture programs are internationally recognised for their achievements in agricultural research and feedback from past students about their learning experience has been consistently five star over many years.
UNE's location in Armidale in the heart of the temperate Northern Tablelands of NSW and within two and a half hour' s drive of the sub-tropical NSW north-coast and the broad-acre farming areas of north-west NSW, makes us the ideal place to study agriculture. Students study in proximity to a variety of agricultural systems including sheep and cattle grazing, dryland and irrigation farming, dairying, banana and tropical fruit plantations, wheat and cotton growing, cattle feedlots, viticulture.
In addition to our ideal location for studying agriculture, UNE also owns and operates a number of agricultural research stations - these are operated as commercial units but their essential function is to provide facilities for teaching and research. "Laureldale" comprises 352 ha and is adjacent to the campus with "Kirby" (746 ha) 10 km from campus. The 743 ha property "Tullimba" is 50 km west of Armidale and is used as a cattle research and teaching facility by the Beef CRC. The "Douglas McMaster Research Station" comprises 1012 ha and is located at Warialda 250 km north of Armidale. This station is used for research and commercial activities for summer and winter cropping, pasture production and beef cattle.

Graduates find employment in a wide range of organisations and areas: State and Federal Departments of Primary Industry, private commercial companies, national and international consulting companies, the World Bank, media operations, Australian banking groups, large scale farming/cattle companies, feedlot and stockfeed groups and intensive animal production operations, irrigated and dryland cropping, horticulture, research, farming and teaching.

A candidate shall be qualified for admission (see Admission Rule Undergraduate Policy). Assumed knowledge is mathematics. Recommended studies: biology and/or chemistry. For students without the recommended background knowledge, the faculty offers foundation units in chemistry and mathematics. |
