Academic Life

Austin College provides an environment in which residents are encouraged to succeed in their studies to the best of their ability. The college provides academic support through the Academic Mentor program, together with advice and assistance from other senior College members and staff. Senior residents appointed as Academic Mentors are available to assist residents with their study at any time.

Every Tuesday evening the College ‘Study-Fest’ takes place in the College Dining Hall. Academic Mentors are available to help those attending. Particular attention is given to support for First Year students. Presentations are arranged throughout the year in areas like study skills, essay writing, scientific/mathematic literacy and examination preparation. Successful.

Academic Formal Dinner

Each year a Formal Dinner is held to celebrate the academic achievements of Austin College members. Awards are given out at Parents' Weekend to students who have acheived high academic standards.

Two weeks before any exam period begins, a Noise Curfew is enforced. Any social or sporting events also cease during exam periods. This allows all students to have a quiet environment in which to study.

At Austin, we encourage everyone to get a good balance. You need to study, but you also need to have fun, have time to relax, and enjoy sporting and cultural pursuits.
