Charities
Each year , Austin College has a charities dinner in the first term of the year. Every year the money raised goes towards different charities. In 2011 the money raised went to the Guide Dogs Australia Charity. This year our chosen charity was one that everyone could relate to; it was the cancer council. Austin was lucky enough to have 2 guest speakers at this year’s charities dinner, the Head of Research at Cancer Council NSW, Dr Freddy Sitas whom enlightened us to the development of research over the past 30 years, what it is as well as the type of research conducted for cures and causes. A former Austin president Jim Ridely who is now a personal trainer who fundraises for charities by organising various activities such as ‘push- ups for charity.’ Austin college is very eager to take part in the next venture. Charities dinner is a great night to get together with your fellow college mates and participate in fun activities in order to raise money for a great cause.
Aside from this dinner, Austin is involved in other community events to raise money for charities. Relay for life which is held in Armidale every second year, always has Austin students that wish to participate.
