Appointed as lecturer in Archaeology at UNE in 1981.
Have undertaken regional research projects in Central Queensland Highalnds, the North Queensland Highlands, SE Queensland, SE Cape York Peninsula and the Kimberley.
President of the Australian Rock Art Reseach Asociation 1992-2000.
Currently working early hominid sites in Indonesia.
Research interests and current research projects related to Asia:
Current project - 'Astride the Wallace Line: 1.5 million years of human evolution, dispersal, culture and environmental change in Indonesia'. This project is focused on two areas, West Flores and East Java, but also includes research in Sumba, Sulawesi and other adjacent areas of island and mainland S.E. Asia. It includes ethnography, surveys, excavations and input from a number of other discplines.
