Intro
Kafui [karfwe] means 'praise' in the Ewe
language |
Kafui is a long-term group associated with Music UNE which specialises in the music arts of various West African cultures. Initially the group focused on Anlo-Ewe music from Ghana, as governed by the tutelage of Kobla Ladzekpo, his wife Dgidgogbe Lawluvi, and daughters Afi and Yeko. The group has expanded and contracted over time as members come, develop and move on and a range of influences has molded its shape as various teachers sweep through, injecting enthusiastic inspiration. Below is a snap shot of the group as it was in 1996, not long after we had begun developing our djembe ensemble. |

There are various random resources and information blocks available on this site. Most arose as my interests focused on particular projects, etc. Check the menu on the left. If you want to use any of the info or designs, particularly for commercial purposes, please talk to me about it in an email - I'm quite generous, but easily offended by thoughtlessness. Perhaps I'll expand the site in the future with info about the tambin, a shepherd's flute of the Fulani peoples of W.Africa (current focus), and/or add projects which arise worthy of documenting and serving to the WWW.
