For outstanding contributions to student learning

Each year up to 210 awards of $10,000 are made.
A Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning recognises and rewards the diverse contributions that individuals and teams make to the quality of student learning. The ALTC Citations are granted to people who have made a significant contribution to the quality of student learning in a specific area of responsibility over a sustained period, whether they are academic staff, general staff, sessional staff or institutional associates. People who are awarded ALTC Citations are widely recognised for their achievements within the nominating institution and have received strong institutional endorsement. From 2011 a limited number will be available to early career applicants.

Potential areas of contribution

Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning provide an opportunity for distinctive institutional missions, values and priorities in learning and teaching to be recognised. Citations will be awarded for a wide range of contributions to student learning, both direct and indirect. There are no specified categories for Citations, and awards will be made for both general and more specific contributions.

Eligibility

  • Both team and individual nominations are encouraged.
  • Teams may be of any size. However, nominations may name no more than five members. A team name is strongly recommended for teams with more than five members.
  • Nomination is open to academic staff, general staff, sessional staff and institutional associates in eligible institutions.
  • All nominations must relate to contributions to student learning in higher education.
  • Each eligible institution may nominate up to ten* individuals or teams for Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning each year.
  • Nominees for Citations are not eligible to be included in more than one nomination in any year e.g. as an individual and as a member of a team
  • Winners of Citations are not eligible for renomination within three years of receiving an award.

UNE processes, support and timelines

Processes

Potential applicants need to complete the Expression of Interest (EOI) form and submit to altc-admin@une.edu.au by 31 January. The EOIs are considered by the UNE ALTC Grants and Awards Committee in order to identify applicants whose case adequately addresses the ALTC requirements for the current year. Applicants with successful EOIs will be supported further to develop their full application, with others provided with ongoing support to develop their application in a future year.

Note: The EOI form is a smart pdf form. Save it to your local computer then open it with Acrobat Reader or Writer v7 or later. This will allow you to fill in the fields and save the completed form with a new name. Macintosh users need to ensure they open the form with Acrobat Reader or Writer instead of any default mac software product.

Support

To ensure your EOI presents the strongest case possible, a short series of workshops are held year year in October-December to assist potential applicants.

After the EOI selection process, additional support will be provided to applicants in developing their full application. This will be in the form of workshops, mentoring, and one-on-one consultations.

Each year further support will be provided in the form of workshops and mentoring for those planning to apply in a future year. Any EOIs not accepted in a particular year will be viewed as being ‘not ready yet’ rather than ‘not good enough’. It may be that your case requires additional evidence, additional time or additional reflection.

Timelines for 2011

October – December 2010 Support workshops for completing the EOI
31 January 2011 Deadline for submitting the EOI
February-March 2011
Develop final applications
8 April 2011 Submit final applications
