The
Bachelor of Communication Studies (three years full time)
at UNE offers a balance of academic and vocational education.
It includes two separate programs. The general program in Communication Studies explores print, audio, audiovisual and electronic media
and allows students to broaden their knowledge of communication
practices in various social contexts. The named program in Writing allows students to specialize in academic, professional, organizational, creative and media-based genres.

Opportunities
Australian Bureau of Statistics figures show that more
people are employed in the arts and entertainment sector
than in, for example, the legal sector. Graduates of the
Bachelor of Communication Studies will find employment
opportunities in areas such as film, television, advertising,
print media, multimedia, arts and entertainment management,
the public service and public relations. Students taking the Writing
program of this Bachelor course have the opportunity to enhance
knowledge and skills in research, writing and editing that are
relevant to a wide range of areas including the media, publishing
and editing, administration, arts and entertainment, business and
the creative and cultural industries. Both programs of the course
can also assist students to progress to further studies including
postgraduate research.
