Magnet
 |
| Magnet is a moth attractant based on a combination of five plant volatile compounds which were found to be attractive to Helicoverpa moths of both sexes (and some other noctuid species). It contains a feeding stimulant (sucrose) and can be combined with small amounts of insecticides which are already registered in cotton. It is applied to one row in every 72 of cotton, and has been shown to have effects on the moth populations in neighbouriong fields as well as the one which is treated. Magnet is being commercialised by Ag Biotech Pty Ltd, a small Australian company. The pictures show (left) a moth feeding on Magnet, and (right) Peter Gregg and Alice Del Socorro with drums containing the product. |
