ESTABLISHING A COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE FOR ACTION ON INVASIVE ANIMALS

— A workshop on community-based social marketing

27 February – 1 March 2013

Rydges on Swanston — Melbourne

The Invasive Animals Cooperative Research Centre (IA CRC) Program 4 is concerned with facilitating and supporting effective community action for the control of invasive animals. Program 4, lead by Professor Paul Martin of the University of New England, has significant research funding confirmed for five years — some of which is being directed to facilitate and support the establishment of a community of practice for action on invasive animals.

The three-day workshop (27 Feb–1 March 2013) is sponsored by the IA CRC, the Tasmanian Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment (DPIPWE), and the UNE Ag Law Centre. The workshop aims to achieve the following goals:

  • To establish a community of practice, consisting of front line practioners and other specialists, for facilitating effective community action.
  • To discuss partnership principles between front-line practitioners and the IA CRC.
  • To develop and exchange knowledge and experience as a basis for continuous improvement theory and practice.
  • To refine the IA CRC 'Facilitating Effective Community Action' Research Program.
  • To obtain responses to recommendations proposed from the 'Caring For Our Country' evaluation.
