Believing and Thinking
Our research focuses broadly speaking on both the logical and social implications of the belief systems, theories and intellectual traditions of both the ancient and modern worlds. One way of putting this is that our research involves a priori analysis as opposed to a posteriori investigation: we explore, through the use of reason, the implications of our thoughts and our beliefs. Unsurprisingly our work is best understood as falling under the rubric of philosophy and, indeed, that is where most of are housed in the University. We have strong interests in metaphysics, ethics and political philosophy, feminist theory and game theory. In all of these areas there is a concern with understanding what consequences any particular theory, claim or assertion has for other areas of our intellectual lives.
Our special interests are in:
· Space and Time
· The Interpretation of Physics
· The Metaphysical Underpinnings of Religion
· Rationality
· The Philosophy of Economics
· Applied Ethics
· Philosophy of Psychoanalysis
· Feminist Theory
· Game Theoretic Semantics
· The History of Political Thought
