Studying with UNE

Studying on campus

UNE is proud that students from more than 50 nations study on campus, creating a multicultural atmosphere. The campus is well equipped with first rate sporting facilities, shops, restaurants, medical and dental facilities, childcare, a post office and banking facilities.

In addition to excellent study facilities, UNE provides a relaxed and friendly environment where you will make many lifelong friends.

The majority of first year, on-campus students choose to live in the residential colleges, within easy walking distance of the main university campus. As well as looking after your day-to-day needs, like food and a comfortable bed, the colleges organise a wide range of social, academic and sporting activities and academic support ensuring there is something for everyone.

Studying off campus

A national leader in distance education, The University of New England offers offer one of the most flexible and comprehensive off-campus programs in Australia. This makes getting the degree of your choice easier. UNE has been providing distance education for 50 years and currently provides off-campus education to around 14,000 students.

Basically, studying externally at UNE means you are based off campus and provided with learning packages to help you complete your studies. Instead of going to classes in a lecture room you will work from a set of teaching materials sent to you. The teaching materials are usually delivered in print format but may also include audiotapes, videotapes, CDs or online components.

You will be sent a study guide for each unit with information about what you will be studying, what is expected of you, how your assignments should be set out and how they will be marked, lists of required/recommended reading and information about study skills.

Studying Online

UNE is at the forefront of online education and our lecturers use a range of advanced technologies to make studying easier. Currently, over 360 subjects are offered online and some degrees can be studied completely online.

Online learning simply means that you study through a computer connected to the Internet. All students at UNE are provided with Internet access and email accounts.

Many staff and students say the ability to communicate online stands out as the one of the medium's greatest strengths. Email allows you to send private messages and the Chat tool gives students the opportunity for real-time discussion between groups. The bulletin board is the most popular communication tool and this is where students can contact lecturers with any questions as well as discussing issues and problems with fellow students.

An important added benefit of choosing this mode of study is that you can become familiar and comfortable with these learning tools, gaining valuable technology skills.
