About the Centre

Saving the Planet, Feeding the World is a key driver for much of today's science.  We have to produce more food for more people on less land and with fewer resources in a sustainable and profitable manner.  The Universities of New England and Western Australia, and the CSIRO, are at the forefront in the development of strategies and technologies for the animal industries that will provide solutions to these pressing problems. In a first for Australia, the three institutions have joined together and created an International Graduate Centre of Animal Science (IGCAS) dedicated to training the brightest young scientists from around the world.

This initiative pools world-leading expertise in Animal Science and creates a multi-disciplinary alliance at the forefront of agricultural and environmental research. We will develop Labs Without Walls, a concept in which postgraduate students will have easy access to world-class facilities from Genomics to Animal Nutrition over three partner institutions. We match this resource with high-quality supervisors drawn from a pool of 60 scientists, and cement the mix with excellent video conferencing facilities for communication among institutions and a travel fund to ensure students and supervisors can travel to partner institutions.

In brief, IGCAS provides trainee graduate animal scientists with the best opportunity in the world.
