The Power of Education - Global Challenges

A School of Education Seminar presented on May 20th, 2015 by Emeritus Professor Colin Power

An analysis of the role played by the international community in the struggle to ensure that education is seen as a basic human right and that all have access to basic education is in danger of being omitted from the post 2015 agenda. This narrative will outline what education reforms are needed to deal with the challenges posed by globalisation, poverty and inequality, the internationalisation of education, climate change, extremism and violence. Desirable future directions of nation-states and international organisations will be discussed in relation to the strengths and weaknesses of existing structures and strategies.
Drawing from The Power of Education, a case will be made for the development of inclusive education systems and networks that empower individuals, nations, and the international community, ensuring that they have the knowledge, skills and values needed to tackle the global challenges in the future.
