Writing and preparing edited books and special issue journals: Practitioner’s perspectives

A School of Education seminar presented on Nobember 9th, 2016 by Dr Sue Elliott and Dr Keita Takayama

This seminar is practically orientated for those wishing to edit a book or special issue of a journal. Strategies and tips from securing an arrangement with a publisher or journal editor, to recruiting authors and the differing review processes will be considered.

Sue will draw on her experiences as editor of The Outdoor Playspace Naturally (2008) and co-editor of Best of sustainability: Research, theory and practice (2013with Susan Edwards, Julie Davis and Amy Cutter-McKenzie), Research in Early Childhood Education for Sustainability: International perspectives and provocations (2014 with Julie Davis),and a current co-editorial role developing a tertiary text Outdoor Learning Environments: Spaces for Exploration, Discovery and Risk-taking (with Helen Little and Shirley Wyver).

Keita’s talk will be based on his two contrasting experiences of co-editing special numbers for Postcolonial Directions in Education (2016 with Stephen Heimans, Rose Amazan and Vegneskumar Maniam) and Comparative Education Review (2017 with Arathi Sriprakash and Raewyn Connell).
