Higher Degree Research in the School of Health
The School of Health comprises five disciplines: Nursing, Social Work, Counseling, Health Management and Complementary & Allied Health. We offer one of the best graduate research programs in Australia where students are offered annual research school intensives, writing retreats, and financial support to conduct their research and present their work.
Strong connections and partnerships with the community, industry and professional bodies drive the School to achieve regional and global impact. We do this through innovative approaches to teaching, learning and research with a focus on quality and safety in health care, rural health priorities, health workforce and service delivery and a strong commitment to human rights and social justice.
Quality and safety and rural health have been identified as the broad focus of inquiry across the School and informed by national and international perspectives, with the aim of translating research into practice, across disciplines. The School has a number of researchers and Higher Degree research students active within the two research clusters:
- Patient Safety and Wellbeing: patient safety and safe practice in a range of care contexts and related to a range of health problems.
- Mental Health and Wellbeing: including supporting young people with mental health issues
Within these two clusters key areas of research include: patient safety and safe practice across a range of contexts, public health priorities including health promotion and suicide, health workforce capacity building including supporting clinical supervision and building clinical capacity, and interprofessional education and simulation.
The School has a large and growing cohort of full and part-time Higher Degree Research students both on and off campus. This includes a significant number of international students. HDR supervisors engage with students to ensure that they are involved in the scholarly activities of the School, University and wider community.
