The 2018 study program has concluded. Applications for the 2019 program can be submitted in early 2019.

Eligibility requirements

The Australian Federal Government has provided UNE and the School of Education with 10 mobility scholarships for the Early Childhood Education Japan Study Tour program under the New Colombo Plan.

Students who receive a scholarship for the Early Childhood Education Japan Study Tour program must:

  • be an Australian Citizen. Students with dual citizenship or permanent residency or similar in another location/country are eligible, however, they must undertake their study in a third Host location, of which they do not have citizenship or residency right
  • be in their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of the B.Ed (Early Childhood and Primary, or Early Childhood Teaching) degree at UNE
  • be aged 18 to 28 inclusive at the commencement of the study program
  • not have already completed EDEC 321, EDEC322, EDEC421, or OSSE 300

Enrolling in OSSE300 for T3 2018

All students going on the Japan Mobility Study Tour must enrol in OSSE300 for T3 2018. When you are enrolled you will be given special limited access to the Moodle unit OSSE300 in T1 2018 in order to assist with planning for the trip. The only students who should be enrolled in this unit are the specially selected group of B.Ed (ECT and ECP) students who are going on the Early Childhood Education Japan Study Tour November/December 2018. OSSE300 is a special unit that we are using for this particular group of students on this occasion.

The study content and assessment tasks in OSSE300 will be compatible with EDEC321, EDEC322 or EDEC421. This means that IF you have NOT already done EDEC321, EDEC322 or EDEC421 then you will gain credit for either EDEC321, EDEC322 or EDEC421 by doing OSSE300.

So when you enrol in OSSE300, you MUST NOT enrol in EDEC321, EDEC322 or EDEC421.

You will get an academic note (on your transcript) that will state that you have been permitted to substitute OSSE300 for EDEC321, EDEC322 or EDEC421. By completing the two assessment criteria in the unit you will fulfill any accreditation requirements of ACECQA and NESA.

Approximate costs

Please note that successful applicants will receive a $3000 New Colombo Plan Mobility Scholarship.

This will cover all your travel to and from Japan and within Japan. Additional funds will be required to cover your accommodation in Japan, the cost of cultural workshops, meals, incidentals, and recreation.

The trip will depart from Sydney. Importantly, all participants must agree to pay their travel to Sydney and return.

Loans to cover your costs

Loans of up to $9,000 are also available for students to access via the OS-HELP. There is no loan fee: the amount borrowed is repaid once your income is $53,345.

Further information regarding this opportunity to borrow against your HECS can be found at www.studyassist.gov.au
