Bhutan and UNE

The relationship between the University of New England and Bhutan dates back more than twenty years.

Projects at UNE related to Bhutan include the Multigrade Attachment Programme. As part of this Programme, teachers from Bhutan stayed at UNE and in the New England region between 1993 and 2008. During this time, lecturers from the UNE School of Education also acted as consultants for a variety of projects which aimed at improving teacher education and education delivery in Bhutan.

In addition, UNE academic staff and Bhutanese educators have undertaken joint projects to strengthen teacher training in Bhutan.

Research

Research at UNE relating to Bhutan has extended beyond education, to include topics such as business, economics, geography and zoology.

The result is a growing body of knowledge, both in the form of published studies and higher degree theses.

Another factor strengthening the bonds between UNE and Bhutan is the number of Bhutanese students, both past and present, at this university. The first Vice Chancellor of the Royal University of Bhutan was the holder of an honorary doctorate from UNE.
