Graduate Entry into Psychology

If you have already completed a bachelor degree which

  • did not include an accredited psychology major/sequence; or
  • was undertaken more than 10 years ago, in which case the psychology major/sequence would not be recognised for entry into a fourth year psychology program;

you may be eligible for graduate entry into a psychology degree.

UNE offers two APAC (Australian Psychology Accreditation Council) three-year accredited sequences in psychology:

Graduate Diploma in Psychology

Only 10 units required for completion. Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP) available for eligible domestic students in 2023 (note: quotas apply. We recommend applying early before quotas are met.)

CSP availability status is listed here.

Bachelor of Psychological Science (Rule B) entry

12 units required for completion. CSP available for eligible domestic students.

Course details

Graduate Diploma in Psychology

Requires completion of 10 units, but you can apply for up to 5 units in advanced standing if you have completed prescribed psychology units from accredited courses in the previous 10 years (see Course Structure link). The result is that with the successful completion of the 10 units in psychology you will have an accredited undergraduate sequence in psychology.

Bachelor of Psychological Science (Rule B entry)

The B Psychological Science is a 24 unit degree. Rule B entry requires completion of 12 units (72cp), and you will be granted 12 units (72cp) in block advanced standing as part of your admission, see course structure. You can also apply for up to a further  24cp (4 units) of advanced standing if you have completed equivalent units in the last 10 years. The result is that with the successful completion of these units in psychology, you will have an accredited undergraduate sequence in psychology.

What are my options after completing?

With the accredited undergraduate sequence in psychology that comes with completing this course, you can then consider employment positions that use psychological knowledge. Positions are available in a wide range of public, private and non-profit settings.

You will also be eligible to apply for entry to an accredited fourth year program in psychology at any university across Australia, including UNE’s the Bachelor of Psychology with Honours. A fourth year in psychology is a necessary step for those who want to undertake further training towards working as a psychologist.
