Objectives: Students who successfully complete this unit should:

  • understand some of the theoretical issues and approaches used for reconstructing the human past of S.E. Asian and Oceania
  • have a sound knowledge about the regional sequence and sites of importance
  • be able to place Australian archaeology in a wider regional context.

Content: This unit explores issues in SE Asian, Australian and Oceanic archaeology, with the latter two regions being regarded as an eastern extension of SE Asian prehistory.

Assessment: Assignment 1 - 15%, Assignment 2 - 35%, Assignment 3 - 50%
