Objectives:

  • Be aware of the genetic and environmental factors contributing to the evolution of our species.
  • Be familiar with the major areas of controversy in human evolution
  • Have a general knowledge of human skeletal and dental anatomy.


Content:
This unit examines the evidence for the evolution of humans, and their ancestors, over the last five million years. Although this unit will concentrate on producing an overview, some topics, for instance the origins of bipedal locomotion, and increasing encephalisation, will be treated in greater detail.

Assessment:

External: Essay (40%), Examination (60%),

Internal: Lecture Questions (30%), Tutorials (30%), Examination (40%).
