OPPORTUNITIES FOR FURTHER RESEARCH
Master of Arts with Honours
Students may be admitted to study for a Master of Arts with Honours
in Archaeology or Palaeoanthropology if they hold the equivalent
of an Honours degree at First or Second Class level. Students
may also gain entry by undertaking a Master of Arts Preliminary
course. Examination is based on a research thesis, generally of
about 60,000 words. Full time candidates are expected to complete
their degree within two years; part-time candidates have a maximum
of four years.
Doctor of Philosophy
Students may be admitted to study for the degree of Doctor of
Philosophy if they hold a Masters degree which shows potential
for research (where at least 25% of the Masters is a thesis) or
an Honours degree at First Class or Second Class Division One
level. Some other admission options are available on application
to the PhD Committee (including evidence of acceptable research
experience).
Examination is based on a research thesis, generally of about
80,000 words. Full time candidates are expected to complete their
degree within 3.5 years, part-time candidates have a maximum of
5.3 years.
